The Ministry of Reshelving
I found out about the Ministry from NPR's Future Tense the other day. The Ministry is
dedicated to the proper classification of fiction and nonfiction books. The current Ministry initiative focuses or relocating a total of one thousand nine hundred and eighty four copies, across all 50 United States, of George Orwell's _1984_ from "fiction" or "literature" to more suitable sections, like "Current Affairs", "US Politics", "True Crime", or "New Non-Fiction."The Ministry is careful to note that the project is "not a critique of bookstore culture, the state of the shelving industry, or even of pervasive surveillance. It is merely an observation that thanks to the current U.S. administration, 2 + 2 = 5, and 5 is no longer fiction." Information on how you can serve the Ministry can be found here. Photos taken by those who have served the Ministry can be seen here.
