Dead Author Websites
The other day I was cruising around the internet and came upon geoffreychaucer.org, a site that has all things Chaucer. The site also has a link to virgil.org for all your Virgil needs. These sites got me to thinking about what other dead author sites might be out there. I started googling random author names and found some pretty interesting stuff:
- shakespeare.org which currently just has a pageholder and no content. But I am curious to see what it will be especially after googling dante.com to find that it is the home of Infernal Enterprises, Creative Architects.
- But there had to be something out there for Dante and there is, The Dante Society of America
- But societies aren't as interesting as the dot coms or dot orgs. So I tried aristotle.org and found that it is a political technology company. They also own the dot com address. So I had to resort to The Aristotelian Society.
- I found barbara-pym.org for all things Pymian.
- And there is charles-dickens.org for your Dickensian fix.
- And don't forget austen.com, not to be confused with the Jane Austen Society of North America, United Kingdom, or Australia (who has an Austen protrait on their homepage that freaked me out when it started blinking at me)
- There is also thebrontes.com and brontebirthplace.org
- milton.com will tell you nothing about John Milton, but quite a bit about the Milton family of Washington. john-milton.org redirects you to the website of the Milton Society of France. If you want a good Milton page, your best bet is to go The Milton-L hosted by the University of Richmond
